Paintings & Sculptures - Dialogue" exhibition by Armand Strainchamps

Luxembourg visual artist Armand Strainchamps is unveiling new works in an exhibition entitled "Paintings and Sculptures - Dialogue" organised by the F.Hessler art gallery.

In this exhibition, the artist combines painted 'portraits' with silhouettes cut from steel. The choice of medium also contributes to the dialogue between the works: on the one hand, the acrylic canvases give the portraits a silky, shiny finish, while on the other, the metal of the sculptures is a reminder of the sturdiness of the figures and the fact that they are rooted in reality.

These works bear witness to the evolution of the creation ofArmand StrainchampsOn the canvases, the colours are brighter and the faces more detailed. As for the sculptures, the silhouettes are more urban and represented in movement. The result of this exhibition is a certain fascination with youth and its vitality.

Artist in the spotlight

Armand Strainchamps was born in Dudelange (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) in 1955. In 1978, he entered the Académie Royale des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles and in 1979, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre. In 1985, he obtained a diploma from ENSAV de La Cambre.
His inspiration comes mainly from the cinema, and his works are like freeze-frames. The subjects are fragmented and framed by a thick black line. A painter of colour, the artist sees his work as a copy of reality to which different interpretations have been added.

"I use the people I paint like actors in a film, they're not portraits. It's not naturalism, it's not concrete. I try to reinvent".. Armand Strainchamps
