The "Imaginary Shapes" exhibition by Alvaro Marzan

The vintage furniture shop Subtle in Luxembourg City, frequently welcomes artists for exhibitions within its walls. From 19 May until 18 June, the artist AWC, Alvaro Marzan presents its new works, alongside designer furniture.

At the end of a small tree-lined driveway, the shop's large bay windows stand out. Subtle. Once inside, visitors enter a world where lines and colours dominate. Every nook and cranny of the space is filled with sculptures and other objets d'art. The Spanish artist has placed his works alongside vintage furniture. A dialogue between softness and firmness, curves and angles, colours and monochrome begins, allowing visitors to appreciate all the facets of both the works and the furniture.

Alvaro Marzan's artistic process develops around subjects such as the universal quest for identity and the intrinsic human need to understand our own nature. Straddling the border between abstraction and figuration, the artist creates images that emanate from the subconscious. Shapes no longer have any functional meaning, and exist only through their lines. In Alvaro's canvases we can discern elements that blend together with a strong symbolic value: the human, the animal, nature, the body, the feminine and the masculine.

For this exhibition thehe Spanish artist is exhibiting his most recent creations, brightly coloured oil paintings on canvas. This is an opportunity to witness Alvaro Marzan's artistic evolution through his older works, watercolours in pastel tones. Whether bright or washed-out, the artist's colours always exude an undeniably positive and communicative energy.
