Berthe Lutgen wins the Lëtzbuerger Konschtpräis 2022 award

Berthe Lutgen wins Luxembourg's latest award in the field of visual arts, the prize. Lëtzebuerger Konschtpräis 2022.

The artist is the first to receive this biennial prize, which is part of the Kulturentwécklungsplang 2018-2028 project. The Lëtzebuerger Konschtpräis 2022 is awarded to an artist for their career as a whole, their work and their commitment to the local art scene.

Berthe Lutgen won the prize unanimously by the jury, made up of Jamie Armstrong (art historian and responsible for the prize), Marie-Claude Beaud (art historian, exhibition curator, museum director and president of the jury), Lucien Kayser (art critic and chairman of the arts and letters section of the Institut Grand-Ducal), Paul Reiles (Director of the MNHA and former Chairman of the National Cultural Fund) and Edmond Thill (museum educator, former head of the MNHA's education department and secretary of the arts and letters section of the Institut Grand-Ducal).

"Berthe Lutgen belongs to the generation of artists born between 1930 and 1950, whose best work was at the origin of a real breakthrough in the practice of art in the country; op art, happening and land art were unheard of at the time. Alongside these new directions came social and political commitment, in a context that demanded a great deal of initiative and courage."says the Konschtpräis jury in a press release published on Tuesday 11 October.

Congratulated by the Minister for Culture, Sam Tanson, "for her unwavering commitment to the arts and society, to the development of her own unequivocal artistic language, and for her formidable body of work and professional career", the artist will be presented with her prize on 11 November during Luxembourg Art Week 2022.
