Yuan Rong Zhang
Yuan Rong Zhang is a Canadian artist born in Shanghai. After moving between different European cities, she arrived in Luxembourg where she currently lives and works. Originally trained in finance, Yuan decided to follow her instinct and innate enthusiasm for the visual arts. After several years working with architecture and design studios as well as in illustration, she chose to focus on painting, a medium that best allows her to connect, reflect and respond to change while expressing herself with freedom and intuition. Since 2022, she has been studying drawing at the Royal Drawing School in London.
In her most recent works, she delves into the theme of metamorphosis and hybrid mythification, where she freely references mythology, science and tradition. Her work is held in private collections in America, China and Europe.

My practice is an attempt to investigate the interconnectedness of things and to understand the spontaneity manifested in the process of their evolution; the essence of this lies in my view of the world as being in an indeterminate state of constant flux, and my interest in exploring the possibilities triggered by such uncertainty.
Using calligraphic strokes, amorphous natural forms and an often disjointed composition, I develop ideas in works that lie between the semi-abstract and the figurative. In my quest to clarify the undefined and the invisible, I experiment with the process of understanding my work at the same time as creating it, which gradually develops into a parallel journey of self-discovery.
My most recent work explores the theme of metamorphosis and the creation of hybrid myths, with influences ranging from cave paintings, ancient mythology and the natural sciences to quantum physics and literature.
